Keep in mind that I didn't create this list isn't a "Top Ten Best Songs of All Time" list. I think that those two kind of lists are very distinct. One is based on sales and/or universal acclaim. These songs are ones that are special to me in a more personal way. I plan on expanding this list in the future ten songs at a time. See the list after the jump.

1. Musicx- Pato Pooh

This song was on this mixtape called "I Work Hard Chronicles" by Pato Pooh. That whole mixtape was special to me because it was the first rap album I ever listened to. I had always bashed on rap before this; without ever listening to it. This song in particular changed the hole way I looked at rap. This guy was rapping about how much he loves music, and how it changed his life. That's pretty powerful. I don't think he could have pulled it off the same if it was a different genre of music.

2. Vengeance- The Protomen

I LOVE THE PROTOMEN. This band is based off of the Mega-Man games. That sounds corny at first, but they are an amazing group of artists. All of their albums tell this amazing, mature, deep story. This part of the album is Mega Man unleashing his vengeance on the robots of Dr. Wily. This song is the least story-oriented of all of them. I think it fits with the theme though. At this point Mega Man is this rage-filled teenager. He isn't that deep of a character at this point. Also, this song never ceases to get me pumped.

3. Strugglin’ - K’naan

. . . This song is just amazing. I first heard K'naan featuring a song by another artist. It wasn't that special. K'naan didn't even rap that much on this song. It did git me interested enough to check out his first album. On that note, I've never heard an album as amazing as this one. The emotion and creativity is just spectacular. The true story of his life he tells from the music just fascinated me. This was my favorite song from that album.

4. Sexy "Chick"- David Guetta

Now, this seems like the most. . . shallow of all the songs on here. It doesn't talk about the artists emotion, or their life, and isn't that interesting at first. I was still blown away when I first heard this song. This was a genre of music I had never heard before; much less listen to closely (I'm talking about Electronic Dance Music btw). One day I asked Janessa Holst to recommend me some songs out of the blue. I didn't know her at all at the time, but she was pretty awesome and gave me a huge list of her favorite EDM songs. This one was the first on the list, and it got me hooked : ).

5. Vienna- Billy Joel

I remember I was in a motel room one night. I can't remember why we were there. Maybe it was a funeral or another emergency. I only remember being rushed to get there, and not having anything to entertain myself. I watched crappy sitcoms for a while until I switched to this infomercial channel. The first thing I saw was Billy Joel live performing this song. I had never listened closely to his music, and was just amazed. I was having a terrible time at school at this point. This song just told me what I needed to hear, "Just slow down and take life one day at a time" Needless to say I sat though 20 min increments of advertisement bullshit in order to see this song played over and over again. Now Billy Joel is one of my favorite artists.

6. Seventeen Years - Ratatat

One day I watched a mini Modern Warfare 2 montage by Anna Tauras. She had the song Nostrand by Ratatat playing during the montage. It instantly got me hooked. I've never heard so much emotion told in just steadily thumping, increasing beats. I went and listened to this song; which outdid Nostrand by 10x. It is just so amazing. Halfway through the song the beat slows down. It fits so well with the mood of the whole song.

7. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

This song is one of the few on the list I think could go in a "Top Ten Songs Of All Time" article. The song is a perfect portrayal of someone going crazy. The song goes from slow, sad melodies to a slightly avant-garde sound and back again. I started listing to Queen after my father had me watch the movie that was my namesake, Highlander (I was named after Connor McCloud). Queen did the whole soundtrack for the movie, so I loved the music right away. I think this was one of their best songs.

8. Ghostface Killah’s Save Me Dear vs. City of the Ancients - Team Teamwork

Yeah, this song is another genre first. In this case it's a little known music genre. I'm talking about musical mash-ups. Where you get two or more songs and combine them until something new. This is a mashup between a Ghostface Killah rap song and the soundtrack from Final Fantasy 7. I thought the game was amazing; so I have good memories associated with the song. Regardless, this is a great song that only improves the already fantastic rap by Ghostface.

9. ‘Till I Collapse - Eminem

This is one of the more well-known songs on my list. Anyway, I still love it. It's one of Eminem's best raps. I think this is because it never ceases to get pumped. He portrays this great sense of moving forward and ignoring all obstacles in your way. What good rap should be.

10. Speechless - Lady Gaga

This song is beautiful.

Song Suggestions Part 1

Song Suggestions Part 1

The Act I and Act II albums by The Protomen (best songs from both is Vengeance and The Hounds)

Rematch by The White Panda's (Is a free mixtape)

one love album by David Guetta (Best song is Sexy Bitch)

Jazzy Belle by Outkast

Vienna by Billy Joel

Seventeen Years by Ratatat

Ghostface Killah - Save Me Dear (City of the Ancients) by Team Teamwork

Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

Speechless by Lady GaGa

Musicx by Pato Pooh

Next Girl by The Black Keys

No Woman, No Cry by Bob Marley

Here Comes The Snake by Cherry Poppin' Daddies

As Time Goes By - Frank Sinatra

The Mating Game by Bitter:Sweet

Day 'n' Nite by KiD CuDi

Gettin Over You ft. It kept me thinking about it long after I woke up. Most of my dreaming is too weird to make sense of when I wake up. This particular dream was very simple. It had some things that only make sense in a dream, but it still is very realistic compared to my usual fare.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My dream started out with me in a school. It was a lot like my school. The only differences were the hallways were more twisting and unrecognizable, and there were more stairways dotted all over the place. Ironically, I knew my way around the entire place. There were kids all over the hallways. You could compare it to a pep rally right before a big football game. There were golden feathers all over the place. I started picking them up. Somehow I knew that you could turn them in later for some kind of award.

Right as I'm about to go turn in my feathers; a person walks up to me. They smile and say, “I wouldn't turn that in. Other kids are buying them off of people” I said something funny back to this person, and we started to walk down the hallway. The conversation was slightly awkward, with some moments of laughter. We kept walking together down the various hallways. The conversation started getting more comfortable. After a while I stopped paying attention to my surroundings. I was still conversing with this person at this point. The whole conversation felt more comfortable. We started talking about our frustrations, and more about ourselves overall.

I started noticing that we were in a mall-like area. The only difference is that it was one large room with seemingly no end. Like a loft instead of separate store rooms. No one was in this mall except for us and the occasional clerk. Every now and then I would see an island with a cashier. They always ignored us and did not seemed concerned with the absence of people. We would look at some things in this mall, make jokes, and occasionally start a new conversation from that.

I felt pretty happy by the time we went through door exiting the mall. Now we were in a college-campus like place. There was a gate a little ways ahead of us with some buildings in the distance dotting the well-manicured landscape. We stopped talking for now, and as we reached the gate the person turned to me. They were about to say something to me when I woke up from my dream. I laid in my bed for a while. I was was trying to think of what they were going to say to me. Or what I would have said to them. Then I got up from my bed, took a shower, and went back to reality.

The Secret

The 2nd (very) short story I made in my creative writing class. This one took about 6 minutes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The woman stares at the screen of her computer. The entire office around her is busy clicking and typing away. The clock turns to six, and everyone in the office slowly shuffles out. The woman is the second to last one in the office. The man in the cubicle next to her walks over. “Hey Jenessa! Working late tonight?” Jenessa stares at him balefully. “I guess not? Well, that’s fine. Do you want to go out for dinner with us tonight? It’s just a couple of people from the department” Jenessa then turns around in her chair, picks up her bag, and walks out. The man stood there for a second, then laughed. The woman hadn’t said one word since she started working here. Crazy foreigner.

Jenessa quickly drove home. Only when she got into her apartment did her shoulders start shaking. She starts to sob, and then starts gagging. Diamonds, pearls and roses start falling out of her mouth. She continues sobbing, and the gems and flowers continue to fall. Her sobbing finally subsides. She goes into the bathroom, and coughs up blood into her towel. She looks into the mirror, and then walks to her bed.

Visual Shot/Scene Ideas

Here are the visual shot/scene ideas I came up with during my writing class. They are very brief.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He is running through the woods. Branches are hitting his face. He keeps running. He is not scared. He has purpose in his eyes. A gray blur tackles him from the left, and knocks him out of view.

The man is sitting in a chair. He is ugly. Scars and boils cover his face and hands. His clothes are ripped and dirty. He is shaking uncontrollably. His hand keeps moving for something on the table next to him. The object is obscured by his body. A sad woman comes up behind him and puts her hand on his shoulder. His hand stops reaching. He stops shaking.

The small glass statue is falling. The cliff behind is races by, but the statue seems unmoving. The statue has a scowl carved on its jade face. The statue lands upright on the ground below. A little boy playing in the river goes over to look at the statue. The statue is smiling.

The Wait

I wrote this very short story in about 2 minutes during my creative writing class today. The task was coming up with characters for a movie.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ancient man sits at his stump by the road every day. Wrinkles cover the skin on his exposed face and hands. Every day he watches the carts go by, carrying their silks and spices away from the Great Kingdom. Every day he waits. When the final carts leave for the day he walks back into the forest behind him. Back to the lean-to he calls home. Every day he opens the chest. He stares at the piles of gold, and the silk velvet vest of a child. He traces his finger over the gold phoenix stitching on the vest. “Not today,” he says to himself. Like he says everyday.

About Me

Coming Soon. . .
